Drama is better kept IC. Respect is key between members; if you want respect you must give respect. If there's a problem with a member please contact either one of the mods or one of the admins.
TAOE is an intermediate to advanced, mature rated site [M], so we ask that all members to be just that; mature. There can be some pretty heavy subject matter so be warned. No characters below 18 years old. NPCs like children and such can be mentioned. There will be no child molester characters allowed on this site.
Though there's no word count, we ask that you try and match your partner's number of words. It's no fun when you write a nice big paragraph and you get a couple sentences back, right? Then don't do it.
Number of Characters
There's no limit to the amount of characters you can make, however before you can make a second character, we ask that your first character has 10 IC posts. Same goes for any subsequent character. PLEASE KEEP YOUR CHARACTERS ACTIVE IF YOU WANNA KEEP THEM.
Register your character as "First Last" on the site, with your character names. If you messed up somehow talk to an admin, they'll be more then glad to edit your name for you. OOC accounts are reserved for Admins and Moderators, so please do not make them!
Avatar pics are 250px by 300px. The personal image on the minioprofile is a square and will resize automatically. This can be an image that represents the player, much like the avatars on the cbox! The Gif is 230px by 110px. Since the skin was so nicely coded by YunoTheNine, we ask to have high quality images please, keep the site pretty. Here is a link to help crop images and gifs: EZGif | PicMonkey
We ask that all faceclaims/play bys to be of actors of age (17 and older). We also ask them to be of real people (actors, models, etc, someone you can get pics and gifs), no anime or other cartoon characters. If you want to use art of your character you can put that in your signature, if you wish.
There will be none tolerated. There are rules to character powers and such for that reason, please see those sections in order to make sure you're not making your character too strong. If you have any questions contact an admin or mod and they'll be more then happy to help!
We simply ask (please) that you use the basic template which is provided within the posts, super easy, either click on the button that says "template" when you write your post or write [template][/*template] at the beginning and end of a post (minus the star). Plotters are required to have a template, but there's lots of resource sites for that such as Caution to the Wind
Generally speaking, the only classification changes characters can undergo is from Pure to Imperfect. Characters can POTENTIALLY go back to Elisium pretending to be Pures, but that would be a very elaborate plot that needs to be discussed with either By or Jonah before it happens.
Everything on this site is copyrighted to the said members or individuals here on TAOE. Skin was made by YunoTheNine of Shine. Templates and Graphics belong to the rightful owners, and there will be no stealing characters either. So we will put it frank, you steal ANYTHING without giving the proper credit, you will be banned. No warning.
We're all here to have a good time! So kick back, write loads, and have fun~! Make some friends! Like, for instance, Steve Buscemi, who also happens to be the password that you need to send to an admin via PM in order to get accepted. ;)
TAOE is set in the biggest city, Haven, of the Isle of Man, an island reserved for those the government deems 'imperfect'. Sexual orientation, gender expression, mental and physical health, intelligence, your willingness to cooperate... It all leads up to your ultimate downfall, the one that brings you to the doors of Haven. The weather is harsh, the streets are filthy, and most of the inhabitants live in poverty, fighting for sport and profit, and joining gangs to get by. It's a tough life, that in Haven, but hey; someone has to be a scapegoat.
But little does the government know, there's something about the Isle of Man that changes its inhabitants. They call it the Flux, and it's quite the phenomenon, leaving people who were once only usual in spirit or body, now unusual in ability. It's like a power, one that can come suddenly, or over time, or even not at all. It all depends, person to person, and is, for whatever reason, all based around the citizen's personality. Whether you're Pure or Imperfect, you have a chance of being blessed, or cursed.
Yet, through this rejection and hardship this is where home lies, and this is your chance to make it so.
The Authority is in place to protect us. They serve us to the best of their ability, they protect the citizens of this country until their very last dying breath. Long ago was a time where there was no peace. War raged upon the land, death and destruction ravaged the people, destroyed their homes, split them apart into chaos. In their desperation for control over the anarchy and disarray, the Authority stepped into their ranks, unannounced, unwelcome at first. This did not last.
They lured the people into their grasp with the promise of peace and prosperity, a vow to food, the end of crime and violence. Of course, the good, the bad and the ugly wanted in on this pledge, and many started taking advantage of the system. Like leeches they sucked, squeezed what they could of the government, to the point where there was general alarm, the populace began to notice! And thus began the weeding.
At first it was but criminals, the worst of the worst, all raided and plucked from the public eye, sent away to an undisclosed location for the safety of the country. But their haul through time grew in size; illness causes panic, those who are sick must be put somewhere else, disability, lest it be mental or physical, leads to voids in the community, gender should be a norm of two, no more no less, and those who do not confirm are to be re-educated or removed... the list for their demands grew longer and more elaborate.
Soon, correctional and holding facilities for these so dubbed Imperfects were so overcrowded you might as well akin them to cans of sardines. The Authority realized they needed a different strategy to keep these people from their Pure society.
They found an island, abandoned from times past, a city crumbling from within. The Isle of Man, reclaiming the city as their own they called it Haven in order to mask the true atrocity behind their Elisium.
This was sixty years ago. We are now the year 2021, three generations into Haven's rebirth.

I'm not completely dead inside, but boy, am I on my way there! I'm a lean mean posting machine, and I like to just eat chocolate frosting sometimes. I just eat it. Right out of the thing. Give me your love.
I’m a die hard potterhead, metal head, and coffee addict. I have four dogs, two chihuahuas named Tali and Liara, a pitbull named Surri Dog, and an American Staffordshire Terrier named Norma Jean. I’m a bit of a crazy dog lady, but I’m okay with it.
Yo, I'm Roman! I'm a little noodle who wears too much black with hair as red as a fire truck. I am a firm believer in the power of art, and one day I hope to free all the animals from Sea World while Fall out Boy's "Folie à Deux" album plays in the background. I'm always open to talk about anything from plotting to personal life, so don't hesitate to hit me up! Happy writing!

You're also more than welcome to make requests on my CTTW Bird House. Love you all, happy posting! -Regards; Yuno
Whether you're new or old to this community, one person we have always got to remember is out loving friend Kaityn Rayne. She was a very creative and great person, easy to talk to and always there. Anyone who knew Kaityn knows just how nice she was.
For a lot of us, she was the first person to speak to us and welcome us to the community. As of the 28th of June she has no longer been with us. It's a very sad thing, although Kaityn was the kind of person who wouldn't want us to be upset with her not being here. That being said, in her honor we are working hard to write amazing new stories. Her memory will always be with us. Kaityn, we love you. ♥

The market was a little crowded that day, just the way Alexis liked it when she was out to look for food. If it was crowded, then maybe the vendors would be distracted enough for them not to notice her taking an apple or a piece of bread. She wasn't there for anything other than food, she didn't need anything other than food. Not that she was able to get much food, since she didn't dare stay there after she had taken something. That, of course, meant she didn't get enough to eat, and so was very, very thin. But she never let anyone see just how thin she was, she always wore a large black hoodie to hide everything.
She really hated that she had to live this way, steal to make a living, but she didn't see any other way for her to live. She couldn't read or write, so she couldn't exactly get a job. She didn't even think anyone would actually want to hire her when they found out she was mute, even if she had a way to communicate now, she probably needed to be able to talk out loud to have a job. So she was doing everything she could to keep herself alive, even if it was criminal and she hated it.
That day she was standing close to a stall of fruit, looking over everything, and waiting until the vendor was busy with another costumer. Then she discreetly took two apples, put them in her pocket and walked away. Hoping no one had actually seen her actions. She was so hungry and she really needed the apples, even if she knew it wouldn't help much, it would still be something. Hopefully they would help her through the night, so she could get some sleep.
Can you hear my call? Are you coming to get me now?

He didn't enjoy going to the market, not when there were a lot of people (but when wasn't there?), but a rather loud and rather aggressive voice in his stomach was demanding he go anyways. River didn't make an honest salary, though no one really did in Haven, but it didn't mean he couldn't spend that dishonest money on food that may or may not have been even less trustworthy. He was convinced that one day a pie would tell all his secrets. For now, though, he just had to trust his gut, and his gut was telling him any food was good food. Honest food.
To be fair, River did always go for the shittiest vittles he could find because they were the cheapest, but what was a few ulcers compared to dollars saved? Priceless.
He threw on a long shirt to conceal his weapon and his old duster jacket like he always did and pulled on his beetle-brown boots with the almost-translucent soles. Downplaying his appearance was always beneficial in a crowded place like the market, but truthfully his appearance was downplayed by necessity, not by choice. New clothes were overrated; why fix what isn't broken, right? River had intimate relationships with his barely-there boots and jacket and holey shirts at this point.
The first thing River always did when he entered the market was hover over the vegetable stall and leer gluttonously at all the greens and oranges and healthy whites. They were almost sterile-white, whiter than his teeth, whiter than the whites of his eyes. He could nearly hear the squeak of the pesticides between his molars as he imagined biting into one of the vegetables.
Across from the vegetable stand was the fruit stand, understandably, and he started to walk over toward it until he noticed a suspicious-seeming girl eyeing the produce. River retraced what steps he had taken and watched her from afar and smirked sideways as she skillfully placed two apples in her pocket. Shoving his hands in his own on either side of his jacket, he followed her quietly until he caught up with her, then he grabbed her shoulder, not hard, but hopefully enough to surprise her. "Aha!" River cried. He pursed his lips accusingly, putting on a decent act of being critical of her. "I saw you." His eyes narrowed. "I saw what you did," he added, deliberately not specifying what she did in hopes that she'd out herself (it was just more fun that way). "You're going to be in a lot of trouble once I tell the authorities!" God, he hated the way that sounded, all whiny and condescending. But if he could disgust even himself, perhaps his acting was as good as he hoped.

Alexis always did her best not to be seen, or to be inconspicuous if she was seen. She really needed not to get caught, if she got caught, there was no one to help her out of trouble. The only one who had ever cared about her, was Jane, the old woman who took her in when she was six years old and had just been sent to Haven. Alexis didn't really remember what her real last name was, she had been too young when she was shipped off to remember much of her family. But she remembered Jane's last name, it was Lockhart, and since she had been the closest thing she'd ever had to a real mother, she had taken her last name. People might say that it wasn't her real name, but it was the name she wanted to have.
If Alexis had known that someone had seen her stealing the apples, she would have run away, or probably not even touched the apples at all. But she thought she had succeeded in getting herself something to eat that day, she thought no one had seen her, so she just acted normally, walked at a normal pace as she tried to get away from the market. But before she got very far away, someone grabbed hold of her shoulder and she stopped dead in her tracks. Suddenly she was faced with a young man, who was accusing her of doing something. It was clear that he was indicating that he had seen her take the apples, but he didn't say it out right.
Even if she was wearing a large hoodie, he would probably still have been able to feel the bones of her shoulder through the fabric. Once he told her that she would be in trouble once he turned her in, her eyes grew wide with fear. "Let go of me!" She demanded of him as she looked into his eyes, projecting the thought into his mind, before pushing his hand off of her shoulder. Then she ran away from him, hoping that he wouldn't follow her, that her voice talking inside his head had been enough to make him not want to go after her. But on the other hand, it could make her even more interesting to him, there were probably people who thought that her flux was interesting. She didn't know, she just ran.
She didn't get too far away from the young man, before she tried to look over her shoulder while she ran, to see if he was following her. As she did that, she tripped over her own feet, and fell over in the middle of the street. She grazed the palms of her hands as she landed and was bleeding from her right knee, but that didn't matter to her in that moment. What did matter, was that the apples had fallen out of the pocket of her hoodie, and now one had been crushed by a passer by and the other had been taken by one of the children who seemed to always be begging on this street. There wasn't really much she could do to stop the kid, once he had run away with her apple, she couldn't call out for him to stop, and she couldn't run after him either, not when she had just injured her knee. So she just sat there, wondering what to do for food now.

After he had taken her shoulder, everything seemed to happen so fast that River stood petrified in place as the girl took off down the street. He was mostly perplexed and was not concerned about her running off so much as he was wondering what had just happened in his own head. Had someone really told him to let go of her or was the shitty food finally infecting his brain?
When he had come back to reality, he realized the girl was now, not even a block from him, slumped over on the pavement, seemingly had to have fallen. River strolled over to her, feeling a little bad for indirectly making her fall, and so when he reached her, he held out his hand to help her up. He grinned a little to assure her he wasn't actually going to turn her in, but his smiles always looked a bit smarmy.
"Look, I wasn't really gonna turn you in," he started and shrugged. "I just wanted to scare you." River shifted his weight nervously, debating with himself internally. Then he reached down and pulled a slim, almost paper-thin wallet out of his boot, took out a few dollars and handed them toward her. "I feel bad you lost those hard-earned apples, so here. I mean, unless you wanna steal 'em. I'm always down for that." He smirked again. Tempted as he was to ask about what had happened to him... in his head... earlier, he thought it might be a bit strange to accuse her of having telepathy, or it might just make him seem even crazier. River surprised himself because he was usually a talk first, think later kind of person in these situations, but he was in fact pleasantly shocked he managed to hold his tongue.

Alexis knew very well that she shouldn't just be sitting there, she should be getting up and running away before the man came after her again. But her knee was hurting too much after her fall, and her hands, that had graced the pavement, were hurting quite a lot too, so pushing herself up could be quite painful. So she just sat there, watching as the man came over to her, extending his hand to her like he wanted to help her up. She wasn't sure if she should take his hand or not, because that smarmy smile on his face could still mean that he wanted to turn her in and now it was so much easier for him to do, since she couldn't run.
When he suddenly told her that he wouldn't turn her in, he had just wanted to scare her, she looked at him with a very angry expression on her face. "Why would you do that? What do you get out of it? Other than the entertainment of seeing me falling over, hurting myself and losing the only food I'm likely to get today?" She asked him as she looked into his eyes, making sure that he could hear her thoughts and how angry she was with him. She really couldn't believe that he had done this for fun, didn't he know how hard it was for some people to get food? Or was he one of the lucky ones who didn't struggled every time he had to get something to eat. Were there really people on this island who were that lucky?
She didn't trust him enough to let him help her up, because she was still a bit scared that he would turn her in and letting him grab hold of her would make that too easy for him. But as soon as he pulled out his wallet and held out some money to her, she looked up at him in complete shock, but quickly reached out and took the money from his hand. His words about her rather wanting to steal, made her feel a bit sad and a bit angrier with him. "For your information, I don't actually enjoy stealing, but I don't have any other choice, not if I want to eat." She admitted sadly, before she looked down at the money in her hands, wondering what she should use them on.
