Drama is better kept IC. Respect is key between members; if you want respect you must give respect. If there's a problem with a member please contact either one of the mods or one of the admins.
TAOE is an intermediate to advanced, mature rated site [M], so we ask that all members to be just that; mature. There can be some pretty heavy subject matter so be warned. No characters below 18 years old. NPCs like children and such can be mentioned. There will be no child molester characters allowed on this site.
Though there's no word count, we ask that you try and match your partner's number of words. It's no fun when you write a nice big paragraph and you get a couple sentences back, right? Then don't do it.
Number of Characters
There's no limit to the amount of characters you can make, however before you can make a second character, we ask that your first character has 10 IC posts. Same goes for any subsequent character. PLEASE KEEP YOUR CHARACTERS ACTIVE IF YOU WANNA KEEP THEM.
Register your character as "First Last" on the site, with your character names. If you messed up somehow talk to an admin, they'll be more then glad to edit your name for you. OOC accounts are reserved for Admins and Moderators, so please do not make them!
Avatar pics are 250px by 300px. The personal image on the minioprofile is a square and will resize automatically. This can be an image that represents the player, much like the avatars on the cbox! The Gif is 230px by 110px. Since the skin was so nicely coded by YunoTheNine, we ask to have high quality images please, keep the site pretty. Here is a link to help crop images and gifs: EZGif | PicMonkey
We ask that all faceclaims/play bys to be of actors of age (17 and older). We also ask them to be of real people (actors, models, etc, someone you can get pics and gifs), no anime or other cartoon characters. If you want to use art of your character you can put that in your signature, if you wish.
There will be none tolerated. There are rules to character powers and such for that reason, please see those sections in order to make sure you're not making your character too strong. If you have any questions contact an admin or mod and they'll be more then happy to help!
We simply ask (please) that you use the basic template which is provided within the posts, super easy, either click on the button that says "template" when you write your post or write [template][/*template] at the beginning and end of a post (minus the star). Plotters are required to have a template, but there's lots of resource sites for that such as Caution to the Wind
Generally speaking, the only classification changes characters can undergo is from Pure to Imperfect. Characters can POTENTIALLY go back to Elisium pretending to be Pures, but that would be a very elaborate plot that needs to be discussed with either By or Jonah before it happens.
Everything on this site is copyrighted to the said members or individuals here on TAOE. Skin was made by YunoTheNine of Shine. Templates and Graphics belong to the rightful owners, and there will be no stealing characters either. So we will put it frank, you steal ANYTHING without giving the proper credit, you will be banned. No warning.
We're all here to have a good time! So kick back, write loads, and have fun~! Make some friends! Like, for instance, Steve Buscemi, who also happens to be the password that you need to send to an admin via PM in order to get accepted. ;)
TAOE is set in the biggest city, Haven, of the Isle of Man, an island reserved for those the government deems 'imperfect'. Sexual orientation, gender expression, mental and physical health, intelligence, your willingness to cooperate... It all leads up to your ultimate downfall, the one that brings you to the doors of Haven. The weather is harsh, the streets are filthy, and most of the inhabitants live in poverty, fighting for sport and profit, and joining gangs to get by. It's a tough life, that in Haven, but hey; someone has to be a scapegoat.
But little does the government know, there's something about the Isle of Man that changes its inhabitants. They call it the Flux, and it's quite the phenomenon, leaving people who were once only usual in spirit or body, now unusual in ability. It's like a power, one that can come suddenly, or over time, or even not at all. It all depends, person to person, and is, for whatever reason, all based around the citizen's personality. Whether you're Pure or Imperfect, you have a chance of being blessed, or cursed.
Yet, through this rejection and hardship this is where home lies, and this is your chance to make it so.
The Authority is in place to protect us. They serve us to the best of their ability, they protect the citizens of this country until their very last dying breath. Long ago was a time where there was no peace. War raged upon the land, death and destruction ravaged the people, destroyed their homes, split them apart into chaos. In their desperation for control over the anarchy and disarray, the Authority stepped into their ranks, unannounced, unwelcome at first. This did not last.
They lured the people into their grasp with the promise of peace and prosperity, a vow to food, the end of crime and violence. Of course, the good, the bad and the ugly wanted in on this pledge, and many started taking advantage of the system. Like leeches they sucked, squeezed what they could of the government, to the point where there was general alarm, the populace began to notice! And thus began the weeding.
At first it was but criminals, the worst of the worst, all raided and plucked from the public eye, sent away to an undisclosed location for the safety of the country. But their haul through time grew in size; illness causes panic, those who are sick must be put somewhere else, disability, lest it be mental or physical, leads to voids in the community, gender should be a norm of two, no more no less, and those who do not confirm are to be re-educated or removed... the list for their demands grew longer and more elaborate.
Soon, correctional and holding facilities for these so dubbed Imperfects were so overcrowded you might as well akin them to cans of sardines. The Authority realized they needed a different strategy to keep these people from their Pure society.
They found an island, abandoned from times past, a city crumbling from within. The Isle of Man, reclaiming the city as their own they called it Haven in order to mask the true atrocity behind their Elisium.
This was sixty years ago. We are now the year 2021, three generations into Haven's rebirth.

So, seriously, if you ever want some help coding something, learning how to do it, or simply fixing a bug that you cant find; feel free to hit me with a PM~!. You're also more than welcome to make requests on my CTTW Bird House. Love you all, happy posting! -Regards; Yuno
Whether you're new or old to this community, one person we have always got to remember is out loving friend Kaityn Rayne. She was a very creative and great person, easy to talk to and always there. Anyone who knew Kaityn knows just how nice she was.
For a lot of us, she was the first person to speak to us and welcome us to the community. As of the 28th of June she has no longer been with us. It's a very sad thing, although Kaityn was the kind of person who wouldn't want us to be upset with her not being here. That being said, in her honor we are working hard to write amazing new stories. Her memory will always be with us. Kaityn, we love you. ♥

The walk there was hell. Each step was painful, and slow. Kae didn't dare put too much pressure on his right leg. He was afraid the weight might push out more blood from the deep cut to his side. He'd tied a rag tightly around his waist, trying to cover the area, but it had already soaked through. He pushed on his side with one hand to try and keep pressure, but his hand kept on getting too slick with blood, kept on slipping off.
He scanned the numbers of the houses, looking for the one he'd been told to go for. Truth be told, he wasn't even completely sure he was in the right street. It was hard to thing. The aftershocks of battle were still clouding his brain, and he didn't remember much of the journey so far.
When he thought he'd found it, he shuffled up the steps, unsure of his footing. Keepin pressure with his right hand, he used his left to knock on the door. He winced when he saw the red marks left on the door, when he pulled his hand away. He really hoped this was the right place. If not, this cut would be the least of his problems. Most people didn't take too well to a bloodied strangers appearing on their door step.
He tried knocking again when there was no answer. "Please," he said, trying to modulate his voice so it wasn't too loud. He didn't want to wake the neighbours. "I need help, I'm bleeding."
He wondered, then, if the woman who was supposed to be inside would even want to help him. Maybe she didn't help people involved in gangs. Or maybe she'd ask him to pay, and he wouldn't be able too. Kae nervously clenched and unclenched his fist. This was the best choice he had.

"But doctor, will I ever be able to walk again?"
"You need not worry now, for the time being what you need is rest. the doctor assured her fearful patient, who had come in after being pushed out a three story window, back first, having landed directly on his spine. "You are in safe hands here, and that is all you need to concern yourself with." she continued, but tha didn't seem to be enough for the young man who kept talking, this time a little louder and more desperate then before.
"You're not answering my question, doctor! I just fell out a three story and broke my back, now you won't answer and I don't know if I'll be able to walk!" he cried, to which Fjord answered in a calm, yet quite firm tone.
"Exactly, you have fallen out of a three story building and I do not know if you will be able to walk again. I am a doctor, I cannot work miracles, but as I have told you before as much as the vertebrae of your spine may have shattered your spinal cord itself, from what I could see in surgery, was untouched. By that logic you should be alright, but it all depends how your spine reacts to the injury. You have been given anti-inflammatories in order to slow the swelling of your nervous system, but in the end we will see. A lot of medicine is touch and go. Now you need to rest." she rose from her seated position and onto her feet, placing her hand on the shoulder of her patient. "Sleep well. I will not be far if you need me." she assured him, and left the room, quietly closing the door behind her.
Now for some tea, and relaxation. She had had herself a long day after all, and decided that tea would be a good way to unwind. She might be a doctor but she was no machine, and she too needed to take a little time off to breathe, and muse. That whole operation had gone very well, which she was proud of, but that poor patient clearly did not fully trust, mor comprehend her. A natural reaction to what she thought was one of their first times staying in a hospital setting for a long period of time, and she could not blame him for being afraid. Doctors in Haven do not always have the best intentions.
She was happy to have put water on the stove, that is, until a knock on the door roused her. A patient? Perhaps it was Serena coming back from a stroll to help out. The woman sauntered her way out the kitchen and down the hall, where she could land nose to nose with the door, and open it to reveal...
...someone that was clearly in trouble. What was it with young men arriving with their bleeding bodies, these days. "Come." she urged him, stepping out his way so he could walk inside, and she could immediately begin to lead him out back, without any questions. "Please explain what happened."

The woman who answered the door wasn't what he'd expected. Not in a bad way, at all. Just that she seemed far too... professional, to be running an illegal clinic out of her house. Kae supposed he should be glad that the personal who would hopefully be taking care of him wasn't obviously impaired. Obviously, being the key word. Kae knew that she could be keeping any number of strange psychoses and neuroses under that well maintained visage. That was a lesson you had to learn quickly in Haven.
He followed her inside, still trying to keep pressure on his wound.
"They came outta nowhere, and I tried to run away, but there were too many of them, and one of them had a knife, and-" Kae tried to piece together a sequence of events, but it was hard. The parts kept slipping from his mind, too quick for him to hold on to them. "I got cut. Across the side. There was a lot of blood, I couldn't really tell how deep though."
He followed her out back, taking very careful steps. Anything too forceful could agitate the wound. As the adrenaline was starting to seep away, Kaeneus could make out more details. He could think more clearly. Only slightly, and only in parts, but his faculties were coming back to him. As he started being able to think again, he started to realise what the medical treatment would entail. The cut on his side, on his abdomen. Just below his chest. She'd have to undress him, she'd have to see, and the thought of that was enough to distract from the pain almost entirely.

Fjord took the time to listen to what this new stranger had to say about his injuries, and quickly understood that perhaps this had really been beyond his control. She lifted him a brow at the explanation that she was given and eventually, after musing on it some, she nodded to herself, and offered the young man a curt smile. "You need not say more. Come in quickly then, come and have a seat and let me see your wound."
First of all, she'd taken notice at how he was still on his two feet, walking cautiously but he was there, all there. True, he could be under the influence of adrenaline after that sort of attack, so for all she knew he could drop any moment, and that wouldn't be very good now would it. Not that she couldn't lift him; he didn't exactly look like a very meaty boy.
The goal was to get him sitting down as soon as she could. The sooner the better. The woman made sure to take him all the way through to the back, passing the waiting room, passing by the patient bay, and straight into the operating room. If he was bleeding as much as he looked then she needed to bring immediate attention to his cut, and make sure it didn't get any worse. One quick check up and she would be able to make the decision whether or not she needed to take drastic action or not.
Opening the door to the very back room Fjord watched the stranger carefully and offered him a nod. "I know this is happening very quickly but I would like you to get to the table yourself before I must carry you. Have a seat." she instructed him, carefully, turning around for a moment to wash her hands, briskly, and fetch herself a pair of rubber gloves, ones that had been sterilized the night prior. "Please start with your name, how old you are, and tell me if you have any allergies." she said, and snapped the rubbers into place before she picked up a disposable mask, and placed it on her mouth, the loops neatly behind her ears. "If you feel faint, please tell me, or lay down. I will understand." she said, and turned now to face him, assessing what he was doing.

Kaeneus struggled through the house with the doctor's help, taking steps as quickly as he could in the direction Fjord guided him in. They reached the very back room, and Kaeneus followed Fjord's instructions to take a seat. Even bleeding and in pain, he hesitated, reluctant to get blood all over this woman's house. But he figured that, given her profession, she must have accepted that as a possibility.
"My name is- Gah," Kae winced as he moved too quickly, agitating the wound. "My name is Kaeneus. Kaeneus Antle. I'm twenty one. No allergies."
He tried to position himself in a way that took as much pressure off of the wound as possible. The pain was getting worse. He figured that his adrenaline must have been starting to wear off. Kaeneus knew he’d made it here just in the nick of time. Any longer, and who knows what might’ve happened to him.
Honestly, he was surprised he’d made it even this far.
The moment when his attackers appears, Kae was all but certain he was going to die. There were just so many of them, and he wasn’t big to start off with. Add to that that he was utterly unprepared, and did not think he would be getting ambushed when he set out to try and salvage scrap, and it really did not look good for him.
As he sat down, he scanned the room for a moment, and noticed the array of machines and tools around the room. He had to admit that he was impressed. Under different circumstances, he would have been very interested in what made them tick, and where the doctor had acquired such technology.

Twenty one, no allergies, and he was bleeding. Now with her nose and mouth hidden beneath the mask, her best attempt at being expressive would be her eyes, and for the time being they were reoccupied with the look of a murderous mother. Either he instigated a fight and got what he was asking for, or he did nothing, and the attack was uncalled for. He did not seem like the type of boy that would be out for trouble, but appearances could be deceiving, she knew. "Do not be shy. Sit, please, I will look you over." she told him when she felt a touch of hesitation stemming from him.
It did not take long to have him seated, and bending down to the level of the gash she could motion him to lift his arm out of the way. Once that was done she gingerly unglued the fabric to the young man's red stained skin, pulled it up and over it and pinned what she could of it beneath his arm. There. Now she had full access. "I am sorry Kaeneus but you will need to hold still while I examine you. This will be uncomfortable."
She noticed something odd straight away; he had a much more obvious hip then most other young males she had encountered here. Strange, immediately it struck her as the hip of a young woman, but she did not question it anymore then she had already. Instead she focused on the cut.
It was longer then it was deep, lucky for him, a good four inches in length. Depth wise, in that area, it did not look much more then three quarters of an inch. Where he had been struck first was much less shallow, she noted as she prodded around it, and pulled the flesh apart to investigate, but....
[b]"I do believe you got away with this fairly easily. Lay down, dear, please, I need to clean and disinfect the wound. It will need to be stitched closed, and other then being quite sore for some time it should not cause you anymore problems.
The woman smiled as she let him go now, allowing him to lay before she turned around and had herself a seat on a rolling stool, moving about now to fetch all the tools she would need for this moderate operation.

It was incredibly difficult for Kae to force himself to stay still during the examination. There was the general self preservation instinct of not really wanting someone poking around an open wound, added to Kae's complete aversion to being touched that he'd developed many years ago. Kae tried to focus on just not moving, suppressing his instinct to jump away from the women. His knuckled were white, nails digging into his palms, jaw set and locked ad he stared intently at the wall.
He almost missed it when Fjord asked him to lay down, but slowly complied, maneuvering without the benefit of being able to exert his muscles on that side. It ended up being a rather awkward motion, and Kae wanted to apologize as he smeared blood on more of Fjord's things than he had intended to. He supposed she must be used to that by now, though.
Kae listened as she explained the extent of his injuries. It didn't sound as bad as he thought it was. Or maybe that was just doctor talk, and she was trying to calm him down. If that was it, she was doing it very well.
"Thanks," Kae said, when he was relatively comfortable and waiting for Fjord to return with her tools. "For doing this. Normal hospitals aren't an option, so, ya know, if you weren't...." Kae trailed off, not really sure how to end that thought. He hopes she got the gist of it.

"They are always an option, provided you can pay to pass through their sadism and not turn you into a guiney pig." the woman answered curtly, setting down tools upon a tray; scalpels, stitching needles, stitching string, foreceps, syringes with anaesthetic, as well as bandages. The various items clattered noisily on the metal tray as she put it down on a short trolley. "But you made a good choice; I do not charge for my services, and I never will. I will need you to come back a few times while you are healing just to make sure that the laceration is healing well, so do not think this is the one and only time you will see me." she told him, and smiled some as she rolled the trolley over.
It creaked and squeaked slightly on the tile floor, nothing that would particularily concern her. This was old equipment but she kept it in good order. Everything was cleaned, dabbed in alcohol and cooked to make sure nothing survived.
It wasn't like she had the luxury of disposeable tools.
"This will not take long, I assure you. Half an hour and you will be on your way home." with her foreceps the woman took a cotton ball and dabbed some blue-ish gel onto it's surface, before pulling up the young man's shirt enough to gently rub it along his cut. It would numb in a few minutes and she would not need to worry about her syringe hurting him.
"You never did tell me your name, my dear. I am Doctor Rodulfr, but you may call me Fjord." she told him off handedly as she started to prepare the lidocaine in her syringe. "You do not have any allergies I should know of, do you?" god forbid he was allergic to the lidocaine. That would make her life significantly more difficult.
